Abraham Shafi, founder and CEO of Get Together, faces federal charges including wire fraud, securities fraud, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors allege he deceived investors during IRL's 2021 Series C round, inflating the social app's valuation to $1.2 billion through fabricated metrics.

The DOJ indictment reveals Shafi allegedly spent millions on incentive ads to artificially boost downloads while telling investors the platform grew organically. Internal investigations later showed 95% of IRL's purported users were bots—a revelation that triggered the app's June 2023 shutdown.

Funds meant for corporate growth were reportedly diverted to luxury personal expenses, according to court filings. The SEC has filed parallel civil charges, with Shafi facing up to 20 years imprisonment per criminal count if convicted.
